Fashion: Indian Song

My favorite thing about India is the way women dress there.  The colour and embellishment on display is really inspiring.  I am no shrinking violet and I love colour, but I have never felt that I could pull it off  in my every day life.  I own a sari and I have worn it for a wedding but that is about it.  Stylist Dorothea Gundtoft does an amazing job with the styling of this editorial.  I wish I had the guts to dress like this all the time.

Travel: Holi in India

I was in India last year during the Holi Festival which celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of light over dark and good over evil.  The pictures (except the first one) are sadly not mine as I was too busy protecting my camera from water and my ass from wandring hands.   Which is a shame really.. I should have just gone along with it as the pictures below are amazing.  If you are planning an India trip soon try to go for the Holi Festival.  You will not regret it.

Kumbh Mela

The Kumbh Mela is a mass hindu pilgrimage in which Hindus gather at the Ganges River.   It takes place every 12 years at four different locations, shifting the location between Ujjain, Allahabad, Nashik and Haridwar.  120 million people are said to converge on the holy places to bath over the 4 months of the Kumbh Mela, 20 million coming on each of the bathing dates.  When I heard about it I thought – this is something I have to go see.  20 Million people walking into the Ganges together.  My boyfriend though did not take to the idea.  ”Come hell or high water, there is NO WAY you or I are going to risk getting stampeded by 20 million people!  And dont look at me that way – its not going to happen.”  5 people had been killed in the previos kumbh mela by a human stampede.  5 people – out of 20 MILLION.  I thought those stats were quite good!    After much argument we came to an agreement and we went to Haridwar a week before the masses descended.  Which was still worth it!

It started with India

It started with a trip to India.  After having spent the last three years in a corporate office saving the world one M&A deal at a time, I decided to take some time off and go to Rajasthan with my mother.  While travelling, I picked up some beautiful pieces of jewellery.  When I returned to London dozens of people asked me where they could buy the jewellery I was wearing.  From those many questions and inquiries, Callixto was born.   On the Callixto website you will find jewellery that I have found while travelling and scouring markets and shops and factories all over the world.  On the Callixto blog you will find pictures of my travels and things that inspire me.

I hope you enjoy the experience of reading the blog as much as I have enjoyed travelling and looking for inspiration.
